People are often surprised to hear the roots of Humanism can be traced back to the very beginnings of philosophy. It is a life-affirming and thought provoking way of looking at the world. Humanists believe this is the one life we have, there is no higher power determining our fate and it is up to us to make the most of the opportunities and skills we have, helping one another along the way. In order to answer the questions we all have, we turn to reason, science and human experience. We do our best to avoid discriminating, moralizing or pandering. If you'd like to know more the British Humanist Association website is excellent - www.humanism.org.uk. There is a growing sense that Humanist ceremonies are fulfilling a genuine need and offering real choice.
